Fuaimdhreach Naoise

Experimental Sound

Fuaimdhreach Naoise is the alias for Naoise’s experimental sound works. These works often utilize custom-built instruments for experimental sound practices such as real-time compositions, improvisations and sound art installations. Other experimental works that fall within Fuaimdhreach Naoise focus on particular art concepts which may incorporate field recording compositions and Audio-Visual productions.

Saw Cassette

A series of experimental real-time compositions/performances using the “Saw Cassette” a custom-built instrument Naoise constructed. The instrument is primarily made of wood and various other daily components to provide a varied mix of sound generating sources. Sound is captured using 7 contact mics and is combined with MAX MSP and two MIDI controllers to further extend the manipulation of sound while also adding looping and memory playback functions.

All the recordings are one take recordings and composed intuitively.

The Saw Cassette is inspired and dedicated to Cork Sound Artist Mick O’Shea.

Pyramid of Sound Terraformer

Music of Terraforming Vol. 1

This project explores the sonification of planetary terraforming through the development and performance of a custom built expanded instrument system (EIS) – “Pyramid of Sound Terraformer”.

Built during Naoise’s masters course in Experimental Sound Practice, the instrument takes the form of a handmade tetrahedral pyramid construction. Inside there’s a controller brain and a range of sensors that respond to gestures and environmental interaction. The result is a performance instrument that functions as both an interactive performance instrument and a conceptual art piece.

Metamorphic Sonicahedron

An interactive sound art installation blending mystery, science fiction, and nature.

The Metamorphic Sonicahedron is imagined as an extraterrestrial space-faring probe with an otherworldly intelligence. It reflects environmental transformations while also sensing the energetic imprint of a moment in time, expressing these shifts as a continuous metamorphosis of sound, space, and perception.

Journey Through Healing Waters

An Experimental Audio-Visual Piece exploring the healing waters of seas, rivers, lakes and wells. The piece aims to sonically cartograph these waters to capture a reflection of its healing essence in produced audio-visual media.

Experimental Compositions

Here you can a listen to a selection of experiemental works made throughout the years

About this Composition

A soundwalk composition beginning in the UCC music building up on Sunday’s well and ending at the Student’s Union Bar on the main campus. Composed in 2024 during my masters course in Experimental Sound Practice

About this Composition

A cinematic spatial piece. The intention behind this composition was to transport the listener to certain types space. I chose temples as the space as I loved to visit the the different types of temples for their unique individual characteristics.

About this Composition

This soundwalk aims to transport the listener through different epochs of time. A time travelling sound walk. Can you identify the different eras? 🙂

About this Composition

This piece was created during my undergrad in Music Technology in NUIM (Maynooth). An Electro-Acoustic piece with various kitchen objects used as sound sources for manipulation.

About this Composition

A minimal drone piece using primarily Saw waves.

About this Composition

Very minimal drone piece using only a single Saw Wave plus effects. Recorded live in one take using Midi Controller as manipulator.

About this Composition

A soundtrack piece made for a fractal VR 3D world. To experience the fractal 3D world, you were placed on a hammock wearing VR goggles, as you floated on the hammock, it would simulate floating in a 3D fractal space.

About this Composition

An ambient piece made some time ago.
