About Track

This piece revolves around the beginning of building a habitable world. The drones occupy a limited range in the frequency spectrum in an attempt to emulate barrenness. It proceeds with the emergence of natural forces such as wind and later on we can hear the internal machinery of the Terraformer go to work.

About Track

This piece aims to reflect human activity in the post-modern industrial world. During the initial creation of habitable worlds, the Terraformer created environments with the foresight of what kind of activity could take place. This sonic-scape emerged for humans to have the capacity to be very busy! Interspersed within the amalgam of sounds, there are recognizable musical fragments which aims to symbolize the joy and beauty that can be found within the hecticness of the post-modern industrial world.

About Track

While performing this piece, I had a sudden flash of a psychedelic state I once experienced. It was ineffable and could possibly be described as being one with pure source energy, there was a sense of it being a place before beginnings, where all things emerged. If the cosmos itself is consciousness, then the Terraformer becomes a builder of consciousness shaping and reshaping the dimensions of awareness.

About Track

In this piece the Terraformer constructs an urban scene that resides by the sea

About Track

Its extended form invites a different mode of listening, best experienced with eyes half-caste, as if entering a meditative or dreamlike state. The title is somewhat paradoxical as syzygy means alignment of celestial bodies, in this context, the Terraformer produced a syzygy which deviated, expressed within the swelling of the saw tones.

Pyramid of Sound Terraformer

This project explores the sonification of planetary terraforming through the development and performance of a custom Expanded Instrument System (EIS) titled the “Pyramid of Sound Terraformer”. The instrument takes the form of a handmade tetrahedral pyramid construction. Within, are Arduino microcontrollers and a range of sensors that respond to gestures and environmental interaction which manipulate the sonic output.  It’s a performance instrument that functions as both an interactive sound system and a conceptual art piece.

The Terraformer is framed as an ancient mythological instrument with esoteric capabilities, imagined as once wielded by gods to terraform distant planets. By situating the performer as a pharaoh or celestial architect, the work invokes questions of origin, creation, and the mysticism of human evolution. The choice of the pyramid form is deliberate: it draws on the symbolic power of the Giza pyramids as cultural monuments to mystery, technology, and transcendence, while also aligning with wider archetypes of sacred geometry and human aspiration. Within this framing, the performer temporarily inhabits an extraordinary state, where they become a mythical planetary architect while also being an active music composer playing an instrument of habitable celestial body creation.

Sonically, the Terraformer combines digital drone textures with organic field recordings of natural landscapes, animal life, and elemental processes such as thunder and wind. These layers create immersive soundscapes that evoke the imagined sonic character of terraforming: a synthesis of construction and destruction, emergence and transformation. Each performance becomes a speculative act of world-building through sound generation and manipulation, the gestural inputs shape evolving sonic environments that document the creation of worlds. The project’s output consists of this first volume of recordings captured directly from these acts of world-building, where the documentation of planetary creation becomes real-time musical composition.
